Cognitano

A map of skills, not a list of chapters.

Most programs move you through topics in a fixed order. Cognitano maps how every skill connects to the ones it depends on, then uses what you actually know to choose what comes next.

1. Every skill knows what it builds on.

Cognitano breaks maths, reading and reasoning into small, specific skills, such as comparing fractions or finding the main claim in a paragraph. Each one is linked to the skills it needs first.

That map is why a struggle with ratio can be traced back to equivalent fractions, and fixed there. In your account you can explore it as the Learning Planet: skills you’re ready for are clear, and skills further ahead stay under cloud until their foundations are secure.

2. An assessment finds your starting point.

Instead of starting everyone at the same chapter, Cognitano begins with an assessment. Your answers show which skills are already secure and where the first gap is.

Your age and year level don’t decide your starting point. A learner who is ahead moves on; a learner who missed something earlier gets to fill it in, without the material looking like it was made for someone younger.

3. Learn it, try it, get help when you’re stuck.

Each lesson starts with a focused explanation and a worked example, then moves to practice and a short check. Interactive lessons let you change a value and watch a relationship respond.

When you’re stuck, hints come in up to three steps: a nudge, then a strategy, then a step-by-step breakdown. Each hint gives a little more, so you do as much of the thinking as you can.

A worked example offers a step-by-step solution.

4. Progress you can trust and explain.

Your answers are checked by fixed rules, and each skill moves through clear stages as you show what you know:

  1. Not yet learned You haven’t shown this skill yet.
  2. Emerging The idea is starting to make sense.
  3. Practising You can do it with some care and support.
  4. Mastered Secure. Skills that build on it open up.
  5. Mastered with fluency Quick, accurate and confident.

AI can explain an idea or phrase a hint, but it never decides a score, changes progress or chooses what unlocks. Read how learning decisions are made.
